Abstract
The Barkhausen effect is understood as a result of the complex microscopic magnetization process and irregular motion of domain walls (DWs) in ferromagnetic materials. Since the past decade, the Barkhausen noise (BN) recorded in soft magnetic materials has appeared as one of the best examples of response of a dis- ordered system exhibiting crackling noise, whose critical dynamics presents random pulses or avalanches with scale invariant properties, power-law distributions, and universal features becoming an excellent candidate for investigating scaling phenomena [1{3]. Here, we go beyond power-laws and investigate the multifractal properties in the dynamics of domain walls of polycrystalline and amorphous ferromagnetic lms having thickness ranging from 50 to 1000 nm. We provide an experimental evidence that the multifractal behavior of Barkhausen noise in ferromagnetic lms is dependent on the lm thickness, although it seems to be insen- sitive to its structural character. We show that the multifractality in Barkhausen noise times series thicker lms collapses as thickness is reduced from 100 to 50 nm, regardless the structural character of the lms, a fact associated to the dimensional crossover of the magnetic behavior occuring within this thickness range. |
