Chubu Members Participate in Joint Team Placing first in the WRS Future Convenience Store Challenge

[December 22, 2017]

On December 21st, members from Omron, the Hashimoto Lab at Chukyo University, and the Chubu University MPRG (Machine Perception and Robotics Group: Onishi, Mano, Maruyama, Prof. Yamauchi, Prof. Yamashita, Prof. Fujiyoshi) formed a joint team “ROC2” and participated in the WRS Future Convenience Store Challenge, held in Sendai. In the robot competition, teams were tasked with creating a convenience store of the future, using robots to reduce the workload of employees, as well as offering new services to customers. The team placed first, with a perfect score (100 points), in the Display/Disposal Task (automated stocking of items for everyday use (onigiris, bentos, etc.) and disposal of items that have passed the expiration date).
