Research Interests

  • Computer-Assisted Language Learning, especially the use of online communities to facilitate student motivation and autonomy.
  • Corpus Linguistics, especially the use of learner corpora in course design and student placement.
  • Teacher training, and the use of technology to facilitate effective training.

Other Projects

  • September 2011-Present - Worked collaboratively with faculty and Master's of Arts students of the Ohio University Department of Linguistics to create and administer an online orientation course for Chubu University students studying abroad at Ohio University.
  • 2008-Present - Worked as a freelance translator, translating a wide variety of documents from Japanese to English, including technical documents, promotional materials, informational brochures, and business and personal letters.
  • 2010 – Worked with local elementary school teachers and the Japan Amateur Radio League for the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station School Contact program, helping young Japanese students prepare and ask questions in English of astronauts on the ISS. In addition, translated astronauts' responses into Japanese for the students.
  • 2006-2007 - Designed, implemented and taught an online English course at Ohio University for Chinese university instructors, using Moodle course management software and Skype.
  • 2007 - Acted as interpreter between visiting faculty from Chubu University (Ohio University’s Japanese sister university) and Ohio University faculty.
