About the Department of China Studies
Comprehensive studies on "China in the world"
The Department of China Studies engages in comprehensive studies on China based on practical Chinese language skills, focusing on the position of China in modern society and various problems inside China from several viewpoints of social and human sciences.
To attain basic Chinese language skills, students study Chinese in six intensive language classes per week from the first year, holding the goal of passing the 2nd-grade Test of Chinese Proficiency before graduation. To help students further deepen their understanding of the country of China, classes such as "Chinese Business" and "Chinese History" are also offered.
Developing "China experts" with sufficient knowledge and language skills
The Department of China Studies offers a compulsory 4-week language training in China during summer break for 1st-year students, as well as longer-term programs including a 4-month dispatch to one of our partner universities. Courses for obtaining teacher's qualification in the Chinese language are also offered, while support is provided for students willing to acquire grades in language proficiency tests such as the Test of Chinese Proficiency and HSK. By providing opportunities of on-site experience and the acquisition of language-related qualifications, the Department of China Studies aims to develop China experts who will play an active role in China-related businesses in fields such as manufacturing and trade in Chubu and other regions.
